Goten wanted to become a Super Saiyan 3, but Goku said it sapped to much ki and it would be much better to be a Super Saiyan 4. In his Super Saiyan 5 form Goten becomes savage, and ruthless. He enjoys toying and punishing his opponents. This is why he tries to use Super Saiyan 4 as his go to form and not use Super Saiyan 5 unless absolutely necessary.
